The Library could not be successful without our volunteers. They perform many duties that are essential in keeping the Library running at top speed for our community. People of all ages and walks of life volunteer. Our volunteers include adults, students, Summer Reading volunteers, and Friends of the Library.

Volunteer Guidelines

  1. Volunteers must fill out an application to be able to work. Volunteers returning after an extended absence may be required to complete a new application. The Library may not be able to accommodate last minute scheduling for those needing volunteer hours.
  2. Regular Library volunteers must be at least 14 years of age. *Alternate opportunities for young teens may be available. Please contact colliervilleburchteens@gmail.com for more information.
  3. The Library does not accept court-mandated volunteer workers.
  4. Volunteers will be scheduled for a single, two-hour time period per week.
  5. Volunteers are expected to abide by their schedule and should arrive to their shift at the appointed time. In the event of a change or emergency, volunteers are expected to notify the Volunteer Coordinators beforehand or as soon as possible.
  6. Volunteers who miss two consecutive weeks without notice will be removed from the schedule. They must contact the Volunteer Coordinators in order to rejoin the volunteer program.
  7. Volunteers are expected to dress in a clean, neat, and modest manner appropriate for the Library environment. Acceptable attire includes modest tops and shorts, slacks or jeans in good condition, and closed-toe shoes. Clothing should be free of rips, offensive graphics, or overly revealing styles.
  8. Volunteers must conduct themselves in a manner suitable to the Library environment. Personal cell phone use, excessive socializing, unnecessary wandering, and other disruptive behaviors are not permitted.
  9. Volunteers must check in with the Coordinators to receive their tasks for that shift. Those who complete their tasks or need clarification should promptly check in with the Volunteer Coordinators for further instructions.
  10. Volunteers are not permitted to enter any staff-only areas – which includes but is not limited to: staff restrooms, break room, and storage rooms – unless directly authorized or accompanied by a Library staff member. Volunteers found in unauthorized areas may be asked to leave without credit for that day’s hours.
  11. Failure to follow volunteer guidelines may result in the volunteer not receiving credit for hours they have worked, or if in extreme cases, termination from the volunteer program. The Library retains the right to dismiss a volunteer immediately.
