3rd Grade My Community Field Trip
This interactive field trip program for third-grade students meets Tennessee State Standards. Students will learn about key features of our community and examine their connection to the past. Interpretive guides and Museum staff lead discussions and hands-on activities at five unique learning stations around historic Town Square, including: Train Depot, Fire Station #1, Log Cabin, and the Morton Museum.
5th Grade Civil War Field Trip
This interactive field trip program for fifth-grade students meets Tennessee State Standards. Students visit five hands-on learning stations around Collierville Town Square to learn about local Civil War history. Hear from interpretive guides and Museum staff about the importance of the Memphis & Charleston Railroad, life as a soldier, life on the home front, the African American experience, and Civil War medical practices.
Homeschool The Museum Field Trip
Dig into the secret life of museum objects with this immersive, hands-on field trip designed specifically for homeschool groups! Students step into the shoes of history and museum professionals as they rotate through three interactive stations focused on the journey of an artifact. First, they’ll experience the thrill of the "find" in our archaeology station, uncovering pieces of the past destined for our collection. Next, they’ll head behind the scenes to learn the delicate art of curatorship, discovering how we preserve and protect fragile treasures. Finally, students take on the role of educators, finding creative ways to share an object's unique story with the world. It’s a deep dive into the "how" and "why" of history that turns every student into a junior museum pro!
Civil War Traveling Trunk
Bring the Museum to your classroom! This educational outreach program, developed by the Morton Museum, provides teachers with hands-on materials that connect students to local Civil War history. Filled with real and reproduction artifacts, books, digital resources, and more, the trunk allows teachers to tap into new and creative ways students can experience social studies in the classroom.
All materials and lesson plans in the trunk have been developed to meet Tennessee State Standards. FREE to all educators - please email museum@colliervilletn.gov for scheduling.
