The Value of the Collierville Burch Library for New Board Member is “priceless”

Shobha Iyer just joined the Collierville Burch Library Board in January, but she and her family have thrived using the library over the last 18 years. The bottom portion of her checkout receipt at the self-checkout is proof of that. The library’s catalog system calculates how much library patrons have saved by checking out library books vs. purchasing them. She has saved over $28,000 by using the library’s resources over that period. That’s huge! What she considers “priceless” though, is the thrill of finding a book or genre that she has not read before, and if you did not know it already, when it comes to reducing stress, reading does it all!

She considers it a privilege to be given the opportunity to serve on the library board and tells everyone she knows about the value of having such an amazing library. Originally from India, she holds a Masters in E-commerce from the University of Memphis, and a PhD in Marketing from IIM Ahmedabad, a premier school in India. She joined FedEx in 2003 and has worked in a variety of roles in Analytics, Digital and Product Marketing. She is currently the Marketing Director for Global e-commerce for FedEx.

Shobha has a passion for reading, and the library is one of her favorite places to hang out on the weekend. Her husband is a huge audio book fan and a Libby enthusiast, making use of Tennessee READS digital books. Her two boys come to the library regularly to work on projects with their school friends.

The Collierville Library, located at 501 Poplar View Parkway, offers free library cards to all Collierville residents, access to a variety of digital materials, a full slate of children’s and adult programs and of course, books.
