The Town of Collierville currently has 34 open jobs covering a wide range of interests and skill levels. The Town is an excellent employer, providing great benefits to full-time workers and some to part-time workers as well. The culture in the Town of Collierville landscape is one of mutual respect, continual training, and camaraderie.
“I have had a really wonderful experience during my time working for the Town,” said Kristen Smith, who has worked part-time as a Public Information Specialist since August of 2021. “Everyone I have worked with has been very kind and professional. I feel valued as an employee and know that my work matters.”
There are several upper management positions coming open as people retire this year. The Director of Human Resources, Fire Chief, Assistant Town Planner, and even Town Administrator are all available as longtime Town employees move on to the next phase in their lives. That these soon to be retirees stayed as long as they have is a testament to the great work culture at the Town of Collierville.
“With 15+ years as part of the Department of Development, it might be obvious I have been very happy making plans for the Town of Collierville,” said Nancy Boatwright, the Town’s outgoing (July) Assistant Town Planner. “When asked what I love about being a planner, I always say that no two days are alike and there’s always a new challenge. It’s never boring! And, I’ve been privileged to work with some very smart, talented, and kind people. That includes professional coworkers, and professional designers and developers. When I retire in July, I will miss them. And, I will miss being a part of the building of Collierville.”
Many mid-level and entry-level jobs are available as well; from Accounting Technician to Codes Compliance Officer to Dispatcher, there are a wide variety of jobs covering the thirteen departments that make up the government of the Town of Collierville.
Like other employers, the Town of Collierville has been affected by a shortage of applicants. But the standard is still high for the person that Town managers choose for each job. General Services Director Derek Honeycutt has been looking to hire a horticulturist to update and beautify the Town’s flower beds. He originally posted the job in January of 2021, and has had only two applicants. Neither one worked out, so the job is still available, and Honeycutt said he may redefine the job as an Arborist/Horticulturist if he doesn’t get any offers within the next few months.
“The Town has outgrown its current landscaping, so I’m looking for someone who has experience planning flower beds with the plants in the correct positions,” said Honeycutt. “That person should also have 1-2 years management experience, as he or she will be supervising a crew in planting beds around Town. We’re also looking at growing our own annuals in the future, so the horticulturist would be in charge of that as well.”
The General Services, Public Services, and the Fire Department departments currently have the most job openings.
