The Collierville Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5066 hosted their Continuing to Serve Awards on Thursday, January 20th. During the Award Presentation Ceremony four current Collierville Police Officers, who are also Veterans, were recognized for exemplifying the VFW’s motto “Still Serving.” Post Commander, Justin Johnson, awarded CPD Officers Mario Marino, John Burke, Griffin Moore, and Paul Moody with a Law Enforcement Award and a Certificate of Appreciation for their continued service to their community and country.
The VFW Safety Committee recommended that the four awardees be recognized for dedicating their lives to service. The Safety Committee and its Chairman James Rice organized the event which started with dinner and was followed by the recognition ceremony. VFW members and their families attended as well as special guests Mayor Stan Joyner, Police Chief Dale Lane, Vice Mayor & Alderman Maureen Fraser, Alderman Missy Marshall, and Alderman John Worley.
“The four Collierville Police Officers honored tonight epitomize the excellence that the Collierville Police Department strives for every day. They have served their country as members of the military and they continue to dedicate their lives to service by selflessly protecting Collierville,” said Chief Lane of the men recognized.
Alderman Fraser said, “It is a great honor to attend this event and it is so nice to see a lively, vibrant VFW in Collierville.”
The Collierville VFW has been in its current location at 347 South Center Street since 1945 and the organization’s charter goes back to 1930. They have over 300 members with over 100 members living in Collierville. A weekly support group, financial aid, VA benefit assistance and much more is offered by the Collierville VFW.
