Collierville Animal Services (CAS) is promoting a national adoption drive titled “Home for the Holidays” to raise awareness about the importance of pet adoption during the holiday season.  More new pets are brought home during the holidays than any other time of the year.  Families that are adding pets to their homes can save lives by adopting instead of purchasing their pets from a puppy mill or a breeder. 

CAS currently has 42 cats and kittens and 30 dogs and puppies available for adoption.  The adoption fee is only $50 and all pets will receive a shelter vet check, age appropriate core vaccines and microchipping. All animals will be spayed or neutered before adoption. Those interested in pet adoption can view available pets and download an adoption application at colliervilletn.gov/adoptapet.  Once applications are reviewed and approved, a CAS staff member will be in contact to set up an appointment.  Adoption hours are Tuesday through Sunday 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm. The Collierville Animal Shelter is located at 603 E. South Street, Collierville, TN 38017. The adoption process can be lengthy so planning ahead is necessary if the pet is needed by a specific holiday. 

While potential new pet owners are encouraged to adopt and not shop this holiday season, giving a pet as a surprise gift is strongly discouraged.  Not everyone is ready for the challenge of pet ownership and it is important for the owner and pet to meet before adoption.  For those hoping to surprise a loved one with the gift of a pet, CAS has gift certificates available for purchase to cover the cost of adoption.
