Vera Hyatt's inspiration and commitment to her art work comes from her early experiences in China, her home country. The influence of her brother, a renowned traditional ink artist in Beijing, her experience as a staff artist and photographer at Beijing Botanical Gardens, her extensive travels in China and her experience locally as a private school art teacher all have contributed to her craft. 

Her landscape works reflect her love for nature and specifically mountain and river scenes. Her art rises from her artistic connection to life and nature, but rises above nature and is reflected in her unique style, with her primary work in oils. 

When not engaged in art work, Vera's interests center on her love for animals, specifically with her devotion to her dogs (all rescue dogs), who, each in their own way, have been a source of joy. She does pet portraits on a commission basis.
