Collierville Fire and Rescue is proud to announce the promotions of Training Officer Bobby Cannon and Lt. Mike Sansone to the rank of Battalion Chief in our department. Together, they have a total of 48 years of service to the Town of Collierville. As Battalion Chiefs, they will serve as the daily shift commander and will be responsible for management, command, and the direction of daily operations. 

Chief Mike Sansone 

Chief Sansone has served at Collierville Fire and Rescue for a total of 26 years as a Firefighter, Driver, Paramedic, and Engine Company Lieutenant. Before coming to Collierville, he also served at the Piperton Fire Department.  

"I grew up here [in Collierville],” Sansone said. “I’ve lived here for basically my whole life. I’ve raised my family and kids here, and I’ve always enjoyed serving where I live.” 

Chief of Operations Tommy Kelley said, “We’re very grateful that we’re able to have Chief Sansone step into this new role in our department. His knowledge of the Town and all aspects of the fire service are something that you can’t just hire. I’m looking forward to having him continue to serve our department and the town for many more years.” 

Chief Sansone and his wife, Bethany, have 2 children, ages 21 and 27. Outside of work, he enjoys going to the lake with his family and keeping fit.  

“Collierville has good employees everywhere,” Sansone said. “This shift of firefighters that I’m working with now is no exception to that. They’re a great group of people.” 

Chief Bobby Cannon 

Chief Cannon has served in Collierville for a total of 22 years as a Firefighter-Paramedic and Training Officer.  

“I love the community and the people I work with here,” Cannon said. “We have a really good system and good employees. This is a place I want to be able to retire from some day with a good quality of life.” 

Originally from Oakland, TN, Chief Cannon previously served at the Somerville Fire Department before joining Collierville Fire. 

“I love the guys I work with,” Cannon said. “I’ve worked with several of them for a long time; they're very good at their job which makes my job much easier. We also have serval new employees, and I take a lot of pride in helping them to train and develop and come up in the fire service like I did. It’s a great shift of men.” 

Chief of Operations Tommy Kelley said, “We’re blessed to have so many qualified people in our department that we’re able to fill vacancies like this from within our own department. Chief Cannon has been with us in various roles for a long time, and I believe he’ll continue to be a great asset to this department in this new role.” 

Chief Cannon and his wife, Kristen, have 4 children ages 6 to 20. Outside of work, he enjoys spending time at sporting events with his kids who play basketball, baseball, and football.  

“This is something I’m excited about doing,” Cannon said.
