Collierville Fire and Rescue is pleased to announce the promotion of Mr. Todd Johnson to the position of Assistant Chief of Fire Prevention. Mr. Johnson brings with him over seven years of experience in our department as a fire inspector and fire investigator, as well as experience in codes enforcement in Collierville and elsewhere. Additionally, he holds numerous state and International Code Council certifications in the areas of building, fire, mechanical, and plumbing.  

Despite the long list of certifications, accolades, and experience that Mr. Johnson has acquired in his career, he maintains that, “I’m not an awards person. We do the job because the codes are important. That’s what drives me: making sure when things are done, that they’re done right.”  

Mr. Johnson said that safety is the main driving force behind his attention to detail. “Our main goal is community education and the enforcement of codes to make sure that spaces are safe for the public and also for our brothers and sisters at the fire station when they have to enter a building at two in the morning to respond to an emergency situation.”  

Paul Witt, Chief of Fire Prevention, said, “Chief Johnson is a tremendous asset to our department. We would not be able to operate at the level that our community expects were it not for his dedication and service to our citizens. His contracting experience and construction background give him an incredible ability to take safety measures that are drawn into building plans and make sure they are implemented when a building is actually being constructed. His attention to detail is invaluable.”  

Previously from San Diego, CA, Mr. Johnson said he was looking for a change of scenery when he landed in Tennessee.   

“I very much enjoy being in Collierville and working at this department,” he said.   

Mr. Johnson and his wife, Audra, have two children in college. In his free time, he enjoys doing projects around his home.   

“I enjoy working with the men and women that serve in our fire service,” Johnson said. “I want to give them the accolades and credit for the incredible job that they do whenever I can.”
