The Town of Collierville officially marked a major milestone today, August 12, 2026, breaking ground on the highly anticipated expansion and renovation of the Lucius E. and Elsie C. Burch, Jr. Library.
Community members gathered for the morning ceremony, including residents, civic leaders, school board members, school librarians, and Town staff, all coming together to celebrate the start of construction on the future-focused facility.
The morning’s ceremony featured a lineup of speakers who reflected on the library’s deep roots and bright future. Library Director Lisa Plath kicked off the program by sharing the vision for the new space and how it upholds the Collierville standard of excellence. Mayor Maureen Fraser brought a personal touch to the stage, recalling fondly how her own children grew up visiting the Burch Library and emphasizing the lasting impact this expanded facility will have on local families.
That vision is being brought to life through dedicated local partnerships. Architect Michael Walker of Walker ARCH, who has shaped several landmark Town projects, expressed his pride in returning to design this next chapter for the library. Daniel Faller of Alliant Construction shared his team’s excitement to begin work on the physical build, while Mike Allen representing the Friends of the Library highlighted the inspiring community support and ongoing fundraising efforts driving the project forward.
Following the ceremonial shovel turn, guests stayed to connect and celebrate at a post-ceremony reception.

300-Person Civic Center: A versatile, modular space designed to split into three separate meeting rooms for Town events and public use.

Modern Teen Space: A dedicated area equipped with updated technology and adaptable seating.
Flexible Community Rooms: Purpose-built spaces for workshops, group collaboration, and public programs.
Infrastructure and Interior Upgrades: Complete building updates including modern HVAC, flooring, furnishings, and utility improvements.
Construction on both the expansion and interior renovation is scheduled for full completion in Spring 2028.
