IT Staff Members Earn Cybersecurity Certifications
Shane O’Connell, an 18-year veteran with the Town serving as IT Network Engineer and Cybersecurity Lead, achieved the Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP) designation. The CISSP credential is globally recognized for validating high-level expertise in designing, implementing, and managing robust enterprise security programs.
Nathan Elrod, an IT Support Specialist with three years of service to the Town, earned the CompTIA Security+ certification. This benchmark credential verifies hands-on skill in core security principles, threat mitigation, and network protection.
"Safeguarding municipal systems and resident data requires continuous learning," stated Chief Technology Officer Gary Vanderheyden. "By prioritizing staff development, we ensure our team stays ahead of modern cybersecurity challenges. Shane and Nathan’s achievements reflect our commitment to maintaining a secure, efficient, and resilient digital ecosystem."
Gary arranged formal recognition of their accomplishments with Mayor Maureen Fraser and Town Administrator Molly Mehner who applauded Shane and Nathan’s commitment to earning these certifications and applying their skills to strengthen our network infrastructure.
