Shelby Drive Road Work Update

Post Date:07/10/2026 11:30 AM

What to Expect for the New School Year

As we approach the start of the 2026-2027 school year, the Town of Collierville is providing a clear breakdown of the remaining work and reopening phases for the Shelby Drive Improvements Project. To keep students, residents, and crews safe, Shelby Drive remains closed to through traffic from Collierville High School’s eastern driveway to Quinn Road. CHS administration and staff are already prepared for this ongoing closure as school resumes.

The road will reopen in three phases:

  • PHASE 1: Before August 5 (School Start) The immediate area directly in front of CHS and Fire Station 6 will be finished and open to traffic. The eastern school driveway (Driveway #5) will be fully accessible. While fire trucks can travel east through the work zone for emergencies, general through traffic is still blocked. For the first 6 to 8 weeks of school, traffic patterns here will be identical to last school year. (Pictured: Looking west down Shelby Drive near the eastern CHS driveway near Fire House 6.)

Phase 1

  • PHASE 2: Mid-to-Late September Two-way traffic is expected to open from the eastern CHS driveway to Quinn Road (two-way traffic is already open from Quinn Road to 72). Drivers will utilize the newly constructed future eastbound lanes while crews continue working on the rest of the roadway.  Phase 2

  • PHASE 3: End of December 2026 Weather permitting, the entire four-lane, median-divided roadway, complete with sidewalks and updated traffic signals, is scheduled to be fully finished and open. (Pictured: Looking east down Shelby Drive from Quinn Road toward Highway 72.)

 Phase 3

Why is Shelby Drive still closed heading east to Quinn Road?
Significant utility and infrastructure work is still happening just east of the school and heavy rainfall continues to impact the schedule. A primary example is the concrete box culvert (pictured) currently being constructed for the bridge near Quinn Road. This heavy structural work must be completely finalized before we can safely transition traffic onto the two new lanes in September.
