When mapping out the future of our town’s infrastructure, the Town of Collierville relies on rigorous data science, traffic modeling, and alignment with our community's long-term goals. Our current focus is a major safety and lane-organization update along the Collierville-Arlington Road corridor.

Historically, Collierville-Arlington Road was designed as a wide, 5-to-7-lane arterial roadway because State Route 385 originally terminated at U.S. 72. However, the opening of Interstate 269 in October 2018 permanently shifted that heavy regional traffic away from our neighborhoods.  

Today, Collierville-Arlington Road only carries between 6,200 and 8,800 vehicles per day. Because a standard three-lane road can comfortably accommodate up to 20,000 vehicles a day, a professional engineering firm and our Town-wide Traffic Model have verified that a "road diet" is a highly effective, viable option that will not cause congestion. In fact, data has consistently shown that Road Diets reduce crashes and increase safety.
