In 2018, the Town of Collierville began a long-term initiative to revitalize Washington Street, ensuring this extension of our historic Town Square maintained its vintage charm while supporting local businesses in the area.
After years of planning and phased improvements, including the development of Washington Square, improved pedestrian areas, and outdoor seating at Mensi’s Dairy Bar, we are entering the final stage of this Capital Improvement Project.
Washington Parking Lot Improvements
To complete the vision set years ago, the Town is beginning a comprehensive overhaul of the public parking lot on the south side of Washington Street. These upgrades include:
- Full asphalt patching and a new overlay for long-term durability.
- New curbing, updated striping, and expanded sidewalks to improve traffic flow and pedestrian safety.
- The addition of an Electric Vehicle (EV) charging station.
- In partnership with MLGW, new pole lighting will be installed to match the aesthetic of the Town Square while increasing security.
Timeline & Alternate Parking
Construction begins in mid-March and is expected to be completed by early May, weather permitting. During this time, the lot may be temporarily closed. We encourage visitors to utilize the Walnut Street Parking Lot as a nearby alternative.
We appreciate the community’s patience as we put the finishing touches on this multi-year effort to make Washington Street a premier destination for shopping, dining, and gathering.
