The Town of Collierville is proud to announce that Derek Sellers has been named a finalist in the 2026 Tennessee Songwriters Week. Following a standout performance at Lafayette’s Music Room in Memphis on February 27, Sellers will now advance to perform at the world-renowned Bluebird Cafe in Nashville.

Sellers’ journey to the finals began right here in Collierville, where he first competed in the qualifying rounds held at the Morton Museum of Collierville History. Out of 20 talented songwriters at the Memphis showcase, Sellers wowed a panel of industry judges to secure his spot as one of only seven finalists statewide.
“The music scene is different here in Tennessee. People listen here. They hear the music and the lyrics,” said Sellers. “I’m excited for the opportunity to advance to the legendary Bluebird Cafe and not only perform but also represent West Tennessee.”
The Tennessee Songwriters Week initiative, helmed by the Tennessee Department of Tourist Development, celebrates the craft of songwriting across all genres. For Collierville, hosting a qualifying round at the Morton Museum highlights the Town’s commitment to supporting the arts and providing a platform for local creators.
“We are incredibly proud to see Derek represent Collierville on a state level,” said Victoria McDaniel, the Town's Cultural Arts Coordinator. “Seeing a musician advance from a performance in our historic Morton Museum to the stage of the Bluebird Cafe is a testament to the talent we have in our community.”
The Road to Nashville
Sellers was judged on the quality of his original lyrics, melody, and his ability to connect with the audience. The panel of judges included Michael Conley (Made in Memphis Entertainment), Scott Sudbury (Award-winning songwriter), and Barbara Cloyd (Bluebird Cafe host).
As a finalist, Sellers will join six other songwriters from across the state—selected from showcases in Knoxville, Pigeon Forge, Kingsport, Chattanooga, Portland, and Franklin—for the final performance in Nashville.
