Town of Collierville Hosts Leadership Collierville Government Day

Post Date:01/14/2026 9:57 AM
The Town of Collierville proudly hosted Leadership Collierville Government Day on Tuesday, January 13 at Collierville Town Hall, welcoming both current participants and program alumni for a full day of learning, conversation, and behind-the-scenes insight into local government.

The day began with an alumni networking breakfast, followed by a welcome from Leadership Collierville representatives. Town Administrator Molly Mehner provided an overview of Collierville’s government structure, setting the stage for engaging presentations from several Town departments.

Participants heard from Public Works Assistant Director Clay Ticer, who highlighted the scope of services Public Works provides to keep Collierville running smoothly. Ticer added a hands-on experience by bringing a recycling and leaf truck, giving attendees an up-close look at Town equipment. Collierville Animal Services Manager Kaci Herrera shared insights into shelter operations and brought along a kitten, a “purrrrfect” prop that quickly became a crowd favorite.

The group also enjoyed a Lunch and Learn session at the Collierville Burch Library, led by Library Director Lisa Plath, who discussed the Library’s evolving role in the community and plans for expansion. Shelby County Commissioner David Bradford spoke about county government and public service, engaging in candid conversation with attendees. The day concluded with Mayor Maureen Fraser who shared her experiences in elected service.

Attendees particularly appreciated the open, honest discussions with both Commissioner Bradford and Mayor Fraser, noting how meaningful it was to see them as fellow citizens who care deeply enough about the community to step forward and run for public office.

In addition to the adult class, the Leadership Collierville Youth Class visited Town Hall on Monday to meet the Mayor and Aldermen and stayed for their official board meeting. Students enjoyed their behind-the-scenes look at Town Hall and learning about the many different jobs and departments that work together to serve Collierville.

Leadership Collierville Government Day offered participants a deeper understanding of how local government operates and reinforced the strong connections between Town staff, elected officials, and the community they serve.
