America 250: The Road to Independence

About the Series

All ages are invited to join the Collierville Burch Library and the Chief Piomingo Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution as we celebrate the 250th anniversary of the United States of America.

Start your journey on the Road to Independence in January 2026! Each month, visit the library to receive your next milestone and learn more about an important event in America’s history. You can participate in a program in person at the library or complete a family activity at home. Registration is required for most in-person library programs.

Featured Programs

Treaty of Sycamore Shoals, 1775
Monday, March 23, 5:30 p.m.
Long before Tennessee became a state – before the American Revolution – Tennessee was home to Cherokee communities and a growing group of frontier settlers known as the Wataugans. Through storytelling, crafts, and interactive activities, all ages are invited to explore how frontier families worked together to build new communities and create some of the first rules for self-government – ideas that helped inspire the American Revolution. Register on the Events Calendar.

Tea Overboard: The Story of the Boston Tea Party
Monday, February 23, 5:30 p.m.
All ages are invited to a "tea party" where we will explore the colonists’ frustration with taxes, how the Sons of Liberty hatched a daring plan, and what happened on that famous night in Boston Harbor. We will kick things off with an exciting storytime, host a Tea-Crate STEM Challenge, and sample different teas. Register on the Events Calendar.

America 250: Stamp Sleuths of 1765
Saturday, January 17, 2026 at 10:30 a.m.
In this hands-on program, families will explore secrets of the Stamp Act of 1765 and uncover how a simple tax sparked a revolution. All ages are invited to become history detectives during a "Zoom-Out Inquiry" activity, learn through an engaging read aloud, and design and create their own unique "colonial stamp" to take home. Register on the Events Calendar.

Keep an eye on this page for future events in the America 250 series!
