Town Celebrates Fire House 6 Opening

Post Date:12/16/2025 3:24 PM

On a brisk December morning, a large crowd of over 200 people gathered in the new firehouse bay with its striking red doors to celebrate the grand opening of Fire House Number 6. The event marked a significant milestone for the Collierville Fire Department and the community as the first new fire house in 24 years.

Fire Chief John Selberg opened the ceremony with a warm welcome, recognizing dignitaries and providing a brief review of the project and features of the new firehouse. He also acknowledged project team members involved in bringing the project to fruition.

"This new firehouse strengthens our ability to serve the community in all types of emergencies, from fire and medical calls to all-hazards incidents. It is a testament to the hard work and dedication of everyone involved in this project," said Chief Selberg.

Mayor Maureen Fraser followed with her remarks, highlighting the importance of the new station to the entire Collierville community.

"For many years, we had been planning a new firehouse for the Southeast area of Town to ensure we are providing excellent care in every corner of our community. We are especially excited about its proximity to Collierville High School, which is why we have nicknamed this firehouse, 'The Protectors of the Dragons,'" said Mayor Fraser.

The ceremony continued with a ribbon-cutting, where past and present members of the Board of Mayor and Aldermen and Fire Administration, cut a fire hose stretched across the front of the apparatus bay door using an electric extrication tool. Following the ribbon-cutting, attendees gathered for a group photo in front of the Ladder Truck. Chief Selberg shared the history of the Truck Push-In ceremony before inviting everyone to help push Ladder 86 into the firehouse.

The event concluded with an open house, where guests enjoyed touring the new facility. Fire personnel were stationed throughout the firehouse to provide information about specific rooms and equipment. Firehouse 6 is a two-story facility designed to provide safe, responsive service to the community while ensuring a safe environment for firefighters to work and live. The first floor includes a living room, kitchen, work areas (including a police office space), a three-bay drive-through apparatus bay, and support spaces. The second-floor features sleeping quarters with 10 dormitories, individual restrooms, a laundry room, and storage spaces.

As the event was winding down, Ladder 86 responded to its first official call, rolling out onto Shelby Drive and marking the inaugural mission for the Protectors of the Dragons.
