The Town of Collierville Fire & Rescue is beginning it’s annual fire hydrant inspection and flow-testing program. This program will run from August 29, 2022 through November 22, 2022. During this time Fire Department Personnel will be testing all hydrants throughout the Town of Collierville. Testing will be completed Monday through Thursday from 9 a.m.-3 p.m.  

During this time Collierville residents may experience brief periods of lower water pressure and/or discolored/cloudy water in their home. This is due to settled particles and silt that builds up in the pipes and is disrupted by hydrant testing. You may see a reddish, brown or yellow tint. While these particles are harmless and do not pose a health hazard, it is not recommended to drink, bathe or do laundry in the discolored water. The discoloration can typically be remedied by running the cold-water full flow for approximately five minutes. Helpful information in the event of discolored laundry may be found online as well as commercially available rust removers may be used.  

Annual hydrant maintenance helps ensure that the hydrants are in proper working condition as well as helps to remove sediment in the water lines. Flushing the hydrants is also critical to the maintenance of water quality in our system.  

We do ask that you please take extra caution and to remind motorists to please slow down and use caution when you see firefighters performing hydrant maintenance and testing.
