Town PIO receives leadership award from the Memphis Business Journal
Post Date:05/24/2022 9:01 AMYou may know her as the face of the “Monday Minute”, but Jennifer Casey’s work goes beyond her weekly updates and miniature microphone. Her role in Town communications recently earned her an award from the Memphis Business Journal recognizing her as a 40 Under 40.
The 40 Under 40 honorees include professionals in the Memphis area who are making an impact in their communities through career advancements, leadership positions, and volunteer service. The Memphis Business Journal received over 200 nominations and Jennifer was chosen as the first honoree from the Town of Collierville.
“I want to be a part of the change that makes local government more accessible, innovative, and inclusive so everyone can connect with us,” said Jennifer. She says in the field of government communications, there is always room for improvement.
Now in her fourth year as the Town’s Public Information Officer, Jennifer manages the distribution of the Town's communication through traditional and online media. During her short time as the PIO, some of her significant accomplishments include managing the launch of the Town's new website colliervilletn.gov, serving as the communication liaison for a regional COVID-19 vaccination site jointly operated by the Town of Collierville and City of Germantown, and leading emergency communication efforts during the September 23rd tragedy at Kroger.
“It’s been challenging, but what started as just a job to support my family has transformed into a very rewarding role where I am able to serve the needs of my community. I couldn’t have dreamed of a more fulfilling career path than that,” commented Jennifer.
Before serving as the Public Information Officer, Jennifer spent five years as the Town's first Digital Media Specialist. She is a native of Shelby County who grew up in Germantown, graduated from the University of Memphis, and stayed in the city for a decade before moving to Collierville. She has two children who attend Collierville schools and is raising them on their own after their father passed away in 2016.
Jennifer shares that building a career while raising her children is demanding, but she is thankful for her community for their support.
“That’s one of the reasons I have never moved out of this county. I have always had opportunities in the Memphis area, and met incredible people along the way,” said Jennifer. “I’m full of gratitude for the good and hard times, because it’s led me right here.”
