Detective Michael Riley was honored at the Board of Mayor and Alderman meeting on April 11th, as he celebrates 25 years of service with the Town of Collierville.  He also received the Distinguished Service Medal by Chief Dale Lane.

 

Detective Riley is a Memphis, TN native graduating from Memphis Central High School in 1989 prior to enlisting in the United States Marine Corps in 1990. He served at the U.S. Marine Barracks, London, UK conducting security and protection services for the U.S. Naval Forces Operations Europe. He was transferred in 1993 to 1st Marine Division Fleet Marine Forces Camp Pendleton, CA Lima Company 3rd Battalion 5th Marine Regiment. Riley served as an infantry squad leader for rifle platoon. Deployments included various locations in the South Pacific and Japan. He completed his service with the U.S. Marines in 1995 obtaining the NCO rank of Corporal.

 

Det. Riley became interested in law enforcement after leaving military service, and was hired by the Collierville Police in 1997. He completed his Tennessee Post certification at the Shelby County Sheriff’s Academy, Class 1/97. He worked as a patrolman and served with the Collierville S.W.A.T. Team from 1998-2003. His duties were firearms instructor, entry team member, sniper, and DUI tech. In 2003 Det. Riley left the S.W.A.T. team to pursue criminal investigations. He was assigned a temporary 12 month training spot in the Criminal Investigations Division. While there, he enjoyed the diversity and challenge of each case and the ability to see the case to the end.

 

In 2006, he was promoted to Detective and continues to pursue his love for criminal investigations. Det. Riley has received training in various disciplines of crime scene, criminal investigation, and interview and interrogation to include the Reid School of Interview and Interrogation.

 

Det. Riley lives in Collierville, TN with his wife Katie of 25 years. They have two sons, Jake and Logan. Michael’s hobbies include outdoor activities and spending time with family.
