Museum Muses: Sunflower Tea Coasters

Admission is ALWAYS free!

Join Sayali Abhyankar for a creative afternoon at the Morton Museum as we continue exploring the vibrant world of Madhubani painting—this time with a local twist! In this hands-on workshop, you’ll create a set of hand-painted sunflower tea coasters inspired by the bold lines and vivid patterns of traditional Madhubani art.

Our theme celebrates the seasonal sunflower boom across the Memphis area, blending the rich symbolism of Madhubani with the cheerful beauty of these beloved blooms. In Indian tradition, flowers—like the sun itself—represent life, renewal, and the ever-turning cycle of nature. Sunflowers in particular are seen as symbols of warmth, gratitude, and vitality.

Whether you’re new to art or an experienced maker, this workshop is a joyful opportunity to connect creativity with cultural tradition. All materials will be provided, and you’ll leave with your own set of unique, Madhubani-inspired sunflower coasters!
Reservation is not required, but supplies are first-come, first-served!
